ShopBIPOC is an online marketplace that features local BIPOC-owned businesses in a wide variety of industries. CCWB led this collaborative effort between thirteen organizations that work with small businesses, in large part due to your feedback that it is difficult to find BIPOC-owned businesses.
By working with multiple organizations to imagine, build, and populate ShopBIPOC, the end product will be a more comprehensive directory of businesses than what we could each build on our own. In addition, it will foster broader support for small businesses and streamline the connections between anchors and businesses.
Please go to ShopBIPOC’s Coming Soon page. We are currently working to recruit businesses and consumers (through the Coming Soon page) to get to a critical mass in order to launch the beta version in late April. Institutions will also be invited to create a very short user profile that will feature your logo, a link to your procurement web pages with information on the ins and outs of doing business with your institution, and an optional quote from your institution showing your support for doing business with local, BIPOC-owned businesses.
Eventually, we will add capabilities to the site that will let us share usage data with anchors in order to see the level of buy-in across the institution to diversify its spend. Plus, if there is interest, we will try to incorporate the ability for businesses to opt-in to procurement announcements from anchors announcing RFPs and other opportunities.
